It may not feel like it out there (❄️), but Spring is here! Approximately 1 million people in Canada are living with endometriosis. Endometriosis is a complex chronic condition that is extremely challenging to live with. It occurs when the lining of the uterus grows abnormally elsewhere in for body. This causes pain during and outside of the menstrual cycle, is linked to anxiety and depression, and more. Endometriosis is under studied, and therefore not well understood. The average time it takes for a diagnosis is 5 years. Management beyond surgery and prescription medications is limited, but thankfully more studies are being done on ways to ease pain, reduce inflammation, and slow the growth of adhesions. Many find red raspberry leaf, chamomile, and peppermint teas helpful for easing pain. Studies have found NAC and Omega-3s to reduce pain from endometriosis. Curcumin, milk thistle, and insole-3-carbinol have been studied for their ability to reduce endometrial cyst size and reduce inflammation of adhesions. And there are many other herbs such as chasteberry and fennel that can help ease pain. Iron and Vitamin D are also important if you have endometriosis as a deficiency in both is common with the condition. Welcome to another Health Tip Thursday 💚🌿 We get quite a lot of questions about products and ways to promote weight loss. So that’s our topic for today! Achieving a healthy weight is about MUCH more than a number on a scale. Focus on caring for YOURSELF and take pleasure in making changes that make you feel good. Most of all, treat yourself with love and kindness during the process 💚 DIET: - A diet full of whole foods like antioxidant rich fruits, vegetables, raw seeds, nuts, beans, legumes and whole grains provides you with a wonderful nutrition base. - Take 2 tsp of apple cider vinegar and honey (opt) in tepid water with meals. It increases thermogenesis, aids digestion, regulates blood sugar, and reduces fat storage. - Coconut and MCT oils help balance blood sugar levels and aid in fat burning. BASIC SUPPLEMENTS: - Bio-Strath – aids in digestion, assimilation, elimination, and energy production. Promotes health of gut and intestinal microbiomes. - Vitamin C - anti-inflammatory, reduces anxiety (helps lower cortisol) and fatigue. - Probiotics – correct pH, improve digestion, support the immune system, helps ease stress and anxiety (the gut-brain connection). SPECIAL HELP FOR SHORT TERM USE: - Acetyl L-Carnitine – converts fat into fuel, regulates blood sugar levels, improves circulation and cardiovascular functions, increases energy. - Black Seed Oil (cumin) – increases metabolism, supports weight loss and immunity. - Have ½ tsp of manuka honey as a tasty “dessert” after meals. Manuka boosts your immune system, increases enzyme activity for better digestion, and the levulose content metabolizes slowly so you feel satiated longer. ADDITIONAL SUGGESTIONS: - Avoid distractions like TV when eating (I know, it’s hard!). Listen to your body. Give your meal your full attention and practice stopping when satiated, a little before feeling full. - Get moving! If working out isn’t your thing, Yoga, Pilates, and walking are just as great at getting your blood pumping. - A sluggish lymphatic system leads to weight gain. Dry body brush 2-3 times a week.
