Aloe Vera – The Desert Lily


Most of us are familiar with Aloe Vera’s healing properties when the inner juice of a leaf is applied to a burn, but Aloe has a number of other outstanding health benefits that make it a welcome addition to your daily diet.


Digestion


Aloe enhances digestive health in multiple ways.  It heals and protects delicate intestinal tissue and reduces the overgrowth of candida.  It improves assimilation of nutrients and promotes regularity.


Skin, Joint, and Vessel Health


Regular use of Aloe Vera can significantly increase your body’s production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, enhancing cellular integrity and promoting rapid recovery.  The increased availability of collagen slows the aging process inside and out.


Healthy Teeth and Gums


Aloe helps reduce plaque and soothes inflamed or damaged gums.  It’s collagen boosting power can also help prevent gums from receding.


Type 2 Diabetes


Taking just 2 tablespoons of Aloe Vera a day can reduce blood sugar levels for those with type 2 diabetes.  Its beneficial effect on blood vessels can help treat symptoms of cardiovascular disease.


Cancer


While research is in its early stages a compound found in aloe, emodin, shows promise in slowing the growth of certain forms of cancer.



Make a powerhouse antioxidant cocktail : Mix 2-3 tablespoons of Aloe Vera with 4 ounces of pomegranate juice.  Delicious!

Fiddlehead season is here! After a long winter, fiddlehead season has finally arrived. Not familiar with fiddleheads or just want to learn a bit more about them, and how to cook them safely? Keep reading! You may have seen fiddleheads in the wild and not even realized it. That's because they are the furled fronds of a fledgling fern! The fiddlehead is the spiral of the plant that would unroll into a new frond of the fern plant. They are harvested before they unfurl, early in the season. Only the fiddleheads from certain fern varieties are safe to consume. Fiddleheads should never be eaten raw and must be cooked a certain way to be safe to eat, so be sure to follow the instructions below. Fiddleheads have been part of traditional diets in Northern France since the Middle Ages, and amongst many North American Indigenous populations for centuries. They are also popular in Asian cuisine dishes like gulai pakis.
