Love Thy Self

We sat down with our friend Jody Harrison of JH Health & Wellness to ask her what “Love Thy Self” meant to her. This is what she had to say:

“Love thy self” is a really interesting term and I think it could potentially be misinterpreted.

I think in order to fully love ourselves we must do our utmost to love each other and support each other. Loving each other requires an openness to understanding. Literally stepping into “another’s shoes” as we would say.

How can we truly understand how someone is feeling or what they are going through in their life, unless we put forth understanding? This is where I am, along this journey we call life, doing my utmost to firstly love my family as much as possible and all others who flow in and out of my life.

I have been fortunate to have some wonderful teachings passed onto me through two extremely experienced and humble yoga practitioners, who I feel have helped me in so many ways.

This is where support comes in. Be it in health and wellness or in our everyday experience of life.

SUPPORT

Where would we be without it? Could we grow without it? To me, supporting each other along the way is the only way. Teaching what we know, when we can; and always helping in a positive way when we can. I feel fortunate to live in a community with so many inspiring healthy beings. Connecting with these people and watching what they do and taking in what they offer is amazing. Peterborough, ON is filled with wonderful practitioners of Naturopathic medicine, Reiki, Holistic healing, local farmers, yoga instructors & studios, health food shops, local restaurants offering local food, massage therapists. The list goes on. We are fortunate.

HEALTH and WELLNESS

Back to the basics feels the most right

Fresh organic fruits and vegetables

Drinking water, and lots of it

Sleep

Yoga

Nature

Balance of work, play and rest

If I have learned anything so far: simplicity & a BALANCE of all of the above, is key to living a happy, healthy life.

We've all been there. You set a goal for yourself to work out more but you can't seem to get into the routine. The workouts might be too hard or you might not have the energy for it. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that at least 1 in 4 adults do not get enough physical activity. If you're inactive, you carry a 20% to 30% greater risk of premature death compared to more active lifestyles. If you have trouble finding the time or energy to work out, VILPA may be a solution for you.

Who run the world? Girls! March is Women's History Month, and March 8th is International Women’s Day. What better time than this to lift up the women around us! Because of the entrepreneurial courage of our founder Jo Anne & the continued efforts of our now owners & team (which is over 80% women), we have been serving Peterborough & The Kawarthas for over 45 years! We are thankful not only for the amazing women in our team, but for the meaningful connections we have made with so many inspiring women in our community. It is important to us to continue fostering an environment where women feel safe, supported & inspired. We are excited to look to the future and continue to evolve to meet the needs of our community.
